Alex is...nine?
Oh man
My baby is 9.
Let's take a moment to let that sink in.
9? Nine. NINE.
There are defining moments in a person's life that no matter the amount of time that has passed, you remember each single detail of that moment. The stomach virus that ultimately turned into Alex's arrival is one of those moments for me. It's started at 8am on the 23rd. Greg and I were both down. I'm still not sure how we survived that day. My Mom and Dad took the kids for a bit, not sure how we would have done it without them.
The contractions started about 3/4 of the way through the day. I ignored them (look, from the second I found out my due date, I INSISTED that I would NOT be in the hospital on Christmas. I guess that's exactly why I WAS in the hospital in Christmas) until I couldn't ignore them anymore. Call the doc. Boom, Christmas Eve baby.
My Alex. My gift that keeps on giving.
Al is a marshmallow. He is kind and sweet. He cares deeply. He is sensitive and sentimental. He's also an F5 tornado. He is still very much "Tornado Ally". He doesn't sit still, he climbs everything, jumps off of everything, he is constantly on the go. He is fearless. He is funny. He loves cuddling. He loves to laugh. He is a tank, but he has a heart of gold.
Alex and Jack are funny together. Never have I seen two brothers as different as the two of them. Yes, they have some similar interests, but all in all, they are polar opposites. Al looks up to Jack, though and there is a lot of love there.
Alex and Sass have got the best friend/worst enemy thing DOWN PAT. One minute, they are literally fighting over snacks and the next minute they are laughing and having a great time. When they argue, they sound like the quintessential "old married couple ". Its annoyingly adorable.
Alex and Em. I could write a book on these two. Their similarities, the odd things that have only happened to them, the fact that they are "soul twins" born 4 years apart. Emma has such a love for Alex and their relationship is just so special. Alex calls Emma his best friend and I have no choice to believe that they will always just have a very deep connection. It's amazing to watch.
Al and Greg are two peas a pod. Al has already said that when he grows up, he wants to work with Greg. He loves to learn how things work and how to fix things and he loves to learn those things from his Dad.
Alex has always been a mama's boy. We had so much one on one time together...I always contend that he just needed me the most and it worked out well for him. We have a very strong connection and I'm proud to say that it hasn't wavered with him getting older. He is my youngest and most precious who says spaghetti (pasketti) wrong on purpose because he knows its makes me melt.
Alex, it's your last year in single digits. I can't belive that we got to this point so quickly. You are an incredible kid and the perfect completion to our wonderfully chaotic crew. I couldn't have asked for a better fourth baby.
Happy birthday, Alex Michael. I love you more than you'll ever know
