Jack is 12

Twelve years ago, a child was born.
Twelve years ago, a mother was born.

Today, we celebrate Jack, the child who made the mother.

I can't believe 12 years have passed since we first met, Bud.  I can't believe all that we've been through in that amount of time.  You have taught me so much about life.  Living life looking through your eyes has been a humbling and amazing experience.

You are my dragon-loving, Pokemon-playing, Avengers encyclopedia.  You love all things sci-fi.  You love music of all kinds, but you're partial to dance music, especially songs by Pitbull. You also have inherited your Pop-Pop's ability to convincingly sing the incorrect words to songs.  Hey, it had to live on with someone.

School isn't easy.  It never has been, and it may never be and that is okay.  You try your hardest, though, and that is all I will ever ask for.

You have become quite the sarcastic punk.  Yup, I said it.  Some of the stuff that comes out of your witty little mouth makes me roll my eyes but impresses me all the same.

You and Dad have many similarities.  Your taste in jokes is unfortunately one of them.  When the two of you get going and start cracking yourselves up, it makes me cuckoo.

Emma is your absolute best friend.  You love the same things and are similar in so many ways.  I guess once you're "jackandemma" you're always "jackandemma".  I love your relationship.

You and Alex couldn't be more different.  But you get along really well... most of the time, that is.  He really looks up to you and wants to be like you.

I could go on and on about your weird relationship with Sara, but all I will say is that you're so lucky to have a sister who worships you.  One day, you will realize that.

You are up past my chin these days. I don't like it.  One minute, you're in my arms and we are dancing to 'No One'  by Alicia Keys during your 4 am feeding and now we can have actual serious conversation about life and such things.  It's just...weird.  I obviously knew that I was raising a baby to become an adult, but I just didn't think it would happen so quickly.

I'm proud of you , Jack.  I'm proud of your goofiness and your determination.  I'm proud of your quirks and your gentle nature.  I'm proud of the young man you have become and I'm proud to say that you're my son.

I thank you for choosing me, buddy.  Each and every day.

Happy birthday to my number one. I love you, Jackaboo.
