Alex's allergy test
I'm so far behind in writing over here, so I'll be time-jumping as I try to catch up. On December 1st, Alex went for his peanut butter food challenge. If you're playing the home game, you'll know that my kid has food allergies. He's had quite a few over the years, but as he's gotten older, some of them have disappeared. So, at his appointment earlier this year, we were told that his peanut allergy number has dropped considerably, and that we could do a challenge. For those of you who don't know what this is (I didn't), it is when they give the child the food they are allergic to and they wait to see if they react, Yes, it's as nerve-wracking as it sounds. Imagine, sitting and watching while your child is being fed a food that last year at this time could have killed him. It goes against every mothering instinct!
After 4 hours, and NO REACTIONS, the little one is no longer allergic to peanuts! He has to consume it at least once or twice a week, so his body remembers that it's not allergic, so he's been getting quite of a bit of it. I'll be honest, it still feels weird. For year now, I've done everything i my power to make sure he doesn't eat the stuff and now he can just have it? it's so weird, but such a relief, and kind of cool.
He's still allergic to sesame, but that's far easier to control than a peanut butter allergy. Maybe he'll grow out of that, too!!!
