A few weeks ago, (Aunt) Laur and (Aunt) Domenica told me that they had a surprise for me. I had to plan to be gone all day, and I had to dress nice, but wear comfy shoes. I've known these girls for a long time, and Laur, especially has a terrible time keeping secrets (Love you, Laur) so I figured one of them would spill the details.
Imagine my surprise when on the day of, I still hadn't a clue as to what we were doing! They came to get me, and off to the train station we went. So, I figured out that we were going to the city (them buying round trip tickets to NY Penn was a dead give away.) While on the platform, they decided to tell me. Laur got her camera ready, because apparently tears were expected when they told me, and they announced, "We're going to see Wicked!!!"

No tears, but pure, unadulterated excitement!!!

So, we hoped on the train and got into the city right arounf lunch time. Our first stop was
BareBurger. An all organic burger place. Lemme tell ya! It was AMAZING!!! We had a pickle assortment as an appetizer (yum) and for my meal, I had a California Veggie Burger. Avocado, red onion, tomato and salsa verde on top of a quinoa veggie burger on a whole wheat bum. Oh. Em. Gee. It was so good, if I had to pick a meal to eat for the rest of my life, that would be it! I totally cannot wait to go back and try other things.

My mouth is watering just thinking about this burger. It was so totally amazing. |
So, after lunch, we were SO full, yet had some time to kill before the show, we decided that we needed dessert. Enter:
Crumbs Bake Shop . I love Crumbs. I, of course, got the Red Velvet cupcake. It was huge. I was so full from lunch, and I probably shouldn't have scarfed down the cupcake, but I did, and damn it, I don't regret it!!!

You can't handle it's perfection, can you? |
Time to get to the
Gershwin. I've seen
Wicked before, but it is in my top 3 favorite musicals, so seeing it again was a dream come true. I had the HONOR and PRIVILEGE of seeing Ms. Idina Menzel in it about 8 years ago, so I was worried that this Elpheba wouldn't live up to her greatness. She didn't. Let's face it, no one will, at least in my mind. But, she was a great Elphie. The Galinda/Glinda was BETTER than the one I saw 8 years ago (not as great as Kristen Chenoweth, I'm sure, but I didn't get to see her.) The Fiyero was good, but not as great (or as amazingly perfect) as when Mr. Joey McIntyre when I saw it originally. But, with all of that said, none of it really mattered, because when you see your favorite musical with two of your favorite people,
that's the highlight, not who played what.

I love these girls. |
After the show, we came back home and went to dinner at a favorite place of mine,
Evelyn's. We feasted on baba ganoush and other such yummy foods. I didn't want the day to end! But, it was at this time that I really started to miss my babies...(all 5 of them) so it was time to call it quits.
This is usually the part of the post where I get mushy, and this is no exception. Girls, thanks so much for treating me to a lovely day filled with my favorite things. I'm so fortunate to have you both in my life and this is a day that I will cherish and remember forever. I love you both, and I'm so happy you are a part of my family.
